Kikoy is a cotton fabric mainly worn by the
coastal people of Kenya. The fabric's uniqueness is its vibrancy of
colour and its distinctive parallel lines. Adelphi has created an
authentic product line using this colourful fabric with leather
trimmings. |
The
kiondo is a hand-woven basket made from sisal which is a natural
fibre grown in Kenya. The sisal fibres are hand dyed and hand-woven
by women as a past time when they are not farming. Traditionally,
kiondos were used to hold staple foods like beans and maize. Now
these baskets have evolved into fashion bags.
All
kiondos have a fabric lining and a zip compartment on
the inside, and are available in black, blue, brown, red and natural
colours. |
